Restylane is hyaluronic acid which is found in our skin and in our joints that dissipates as we get older. Restylane is synthesized in a lab and it’s used as an injectable material in order to provide volume to the skin where that has diminished, or to provide volume underneath the skin. We used to think that our skin sags and therefore we need to intervene, and what we’ve come to realize is that before the skin sags we lose facial volume. And so with the loss of facial volume there’s loss of support of the skin and then the skin sags. So the approach now to restore facial volume with the use of substances like Restylane is very helpful in delaying progression of aging because we’re restoring the support to the skin, so there…we’re seeing less sagging long-term.
