What is Dermaplaning?
Do you want brighter skin with a healthier glow? Dermaplaning is a new nonsurgical treatment that uses a scalpel to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. This popular procedure also effectively removes “peach fuzz” from the face. It is a great alternative to treatments like chemical peels that may lead to redness and irritation. The Klausner Institute is thrilled to offer dermaplaning in New York, NY. Call us today to schedule a skin care appointment and find out how dermaplaning can improve your complexion.
"I am so thrilled that I chose Dr. Klausner as my plastic surgeon, she is absolutely phenomenal. During my visits for both surgical and non-surgical procedures, she gave me her undivided, focused attention. She attends to the smallest of details - - which is what you want in a plastic surgeon - - and I trust her completely. She and her team have been with me every step of the way during this journey and I cannot imagine seeing any other facial plastic surgeon. I love visiting Dr. Klausner's office and seeing Melissa and Jeslyne, and I am so happy I found the Klausner Institute!"- A. / Healthgrades / Mar 13, 2022
"Dr. Klausner is hands down the best! She performed a sinus surgery and straightened my septum in 2017 and I could not be happier with the result. Dr. Klausner truly listens to her patients and provides expert guidance and thorough explanations for her recommended approach. When I saw her the day following my surgery she gave me a gentle face wash all around the area and I could've cried it felt so nice. Her follow up with me was impeccable. She took great care of me through my entire recovery journey. Can not recommend Dr. Klausner enough!!"- A. / Google / Feb 25, 2022

"I met with Dr. Klausner to have a large cyst removed from the bridge of my nose in between my eyes. It had become infected and was very painful. My local ER doctor had sliced it open to drain it and I was left with a big gaping wound on my face. Needless to say, I was distraught and very self-conscious. Dr. Klausner was incredible. She inspected the prior doctor’s work and made a few careful incisions to further drain the cyst. It was clear that it was something that had been under the surface for quite a number of years and Dr. Klausner was very thorough in her inquiry and considered all possible causes. Our first consultation lasted for almost two hours. Because of the location of the cyst, she sent me to have an MRI to ensure that it was not connected to any of the bone. When the infection subsided and it was ready to be removed, Dr. Klausner patiently and carefully excised the whole thing. She has also scheduled several follow-up appointments with me to check on how I am healing. I do have a small scar, which was expected, but it it’s getting flatter and less noticeable every day. I cannot speak highly enough about my experience with Dr. Klausner. Highly recommend."- E.R. / Google / Jan 01, 2022
"So grateful that I found Dr. Klausner. She is an amazig doctor and person. After going to numerous doctors/surgeons for my large nasal perforation and saddling she was the only one who listened and diagnosed my problem. She gave me a detailed plan on how to proceed. She was very empathetic, kind and patient through the entire process. My surgery was extremely complicated but I'm happy to report a success! No other surgeon wanted to help me as they all said it was not possible to close such a large perforation. Dr. Klausner did it!!! She has truly changed my life!"- T.R. / Google / Nov 02, 2021
Who is a candidate for dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is excellent for addressing many common skin concerns. It can brighten your face and reduce rough skin texture. It is also good for those with unwanted "peach fuzz." Dermaplaning is safe for almost all skin types and tones, but it is important to meet with a trained skin care professional before moving forward. Our team will assess your complexion and ask about any conditions that could impact your treatment or results. We discourage dermaplaning at this time if you have active acne, psoriasis, or eczema.
What can I expect during dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is performed in one of our comfortable treatment rooms at the Klausner Institute in New York. During a consultation, a member of our team will explain the process in great detail and answer any questions you may have. We use a medical-grade scalpel to scrape the surface of the skin carefully. This technique reveals a healthier and more even complexion beneath. Treatment time varies based on the individual and the severity of their concerns. Most dermaplaning appointments can be completed during a lunch break!
How long is the recovery after dermaplaning?
The great thing about dermaplaning is that there is no recovery or downtime involved. You can head back to your daily activities and routines right away, and you will see visible results almost immediately. However, it is essential to avoid direct sun exposure for a short period to avoid damaged skin. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with 30 SPF when spending time outdoors to protect your complexion. Our team can discuss the best ways to care for your skin during a consultation.
How often should you do dermaplaning?
Medical aesthetician Juliana Longoria recommends scheduling dermaplaning treatments every four weeks for best results. Of course, this depends on your skin type and any existing concerns. Our personalized recommendations will be based on your unique situation during a consultation.
Will your hair grow back thicker?
This is one of our most-asked questions at the Klausner Institute! No, your hair will not grow back thicker after dermaplaning. Dermaplaning removes the very top layer of skin along with vellus hair. This will not impact the thickness or color of your hair when it grows back. Remember that factors like hormone changes may affect hair thickness and growth.
Can you do dermaplaning at home?
You may have seen at-home kits for dermaplaning in New York, but we do not recommend trying this without professional supervision. If not performed properly, at-home treatments can lead to nicks, cuts, and other injuries. It is best to leave dermaplaning to an experienced professional who knows how to use a scalpel safely and effectively.
