First of all, ouch! We are sorry to hear you may have broken your nose. Nasal trauma can be excruciating and frustrating, especially if the break causes unwanted deformities or disturbs the symmetry of your face.
How Do I Know If I’ve Broken My Nose? Symptoms of Nasal Fracture
The symptoms of a broken nose can vary according to the extent of the injury. For example, a mild fracture may mean you only experience minor swelling and a brief nosebleed, whereas a more severe fracture can result in a deformity, such as a crooked nose. The nasal passages may also be blocked, resulting in a deviated septum. If left untreated, a broken nose may result in nasal valve collapse, nasal septal perforation, loss of smell, or other unwanted complications. Symptoms of a broken nose include:
- Nosebleed, which usually occurs immediately after injury
- Bruising and swelling around the eyes
- Pain
- Nasal obstruction, such as a deviated septum
- A bent or crooked nose
